Vice-Chancellor

General Description:

The first Vice-Chancellor of the Lutheran University of Papua New Guinea will be recommended by the search committee to the Chairman of the Establishment Committee.  The Chairman will seek approval from the Head Bishop of the ELC-PNG, Head Bishop of the GLC-PNG and the Morobe Provincial Government.  The Vice-Chancellor once appointed has the duty of promoting Christian and Lutheran values and to promote the interests and further development of the University. The Vice-chancellor will report directly to and is wholly accountable to the Lutheran University Council.  The Vice-Chancellor is subject to the rules and any resolutions of the Council.

Qualifications:

  1. The individual shall be member in good standing of the ELC-PNG, GLC-PNG, or a Lutheran Church body that is a partner church to either of the two PNG Lutheran Church bodies.
  2. The candidate will be of high moral character.
  3. It would be preferred that the candidate be a citizen of Papua New Guinea. If the candidate is someone other then a national, the expatiate candidate should have a lengthy work experience in Papua New Guinea and is familiar with the PNG educational system. 
  4. It would be desirable for the candidate to have some Lutheran theological education.
  5. It is recommended that the Candidate have a doctoral degree or be in the process of completing the degree or have a back ground in business administration and leadership.
  6. It is recommended that the candidate have experience as an administrator at the secondary education level, preferably at the tertiary level.
  7. It is preferred that the candidate have had teaching experience at the secondary or tertiary level.
  8. The candidate must be computer literate (Word,Excel,Power Point, email) and should have excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  9. The candidate has and demonstrated his ability to work with and motivate highly educated individuals and work in a multicultural environment.
  10. The candidate should have some experience at “third source” fund raising or be willing to participate in seminars and workshops providing training in that area of expertise.
  11. The candidate will provide the necessary documentation verifying his educational accomplishments and his past work experience.
