EDU2-2101             Primary Mathematics Teaching & Learning

The course is designed to help students to understand the importance of teaching and learning on children’s everyday life. The emphasis will be on how mathematical knowledge, skills and attitudes are acquired through the use of real and realistic experiences. It will also enable students to create a positive teaching and learning environments, to provide positive attitudes and develop appropriate skills in order that the children in Primary schools enjoy learning mathematics.

 

EDU2-2102             Health/Physical Education Teaching & Learning

This course provides students with basic information about Health and Physical Education. It focuses on the skills acquisition of games, body control and other health related information such as hygiene, first aids and diseases.

Students will acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and attributes to support them become resourceful personal in teaching and learning of Health and Physical Education in Primary schools.

 

EDU2-2103             Foundation Christian Studies Teaching & Learning

This course supports students to acquire those teaching and learning strategies necessary to effectively teach Christian Religious lessons in Primary school.

 

EDU3-2101             Human Development

The purpose of this course is to give student teachers the opportunity to study and gain the understanding / insights of “Human Development” in relation to physical, social /emotional, and moral development of children. They will then, facilitate the students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes in giving appropriate treatment and attention to each individual as a whole child. As part of the Education Reform, the knowledge, skills and attitudes obtained from this course should equip the student to plan and program towards promoting the Integral Human Development (IHD) as emphasized in the Philosophy of Education, (Matane, 1986)

 

EDU5-2101 School Experience 2 (Two weeks teaching)

Weekly School Experience Programme will introduce the student teacher to the classroom environment. It is designed give student exposure to the classroom teaching and learning practices. The student will be engaged in observation of real classroom teaching, planning and programming. Students will be engaged in planning and teaching single lessons and teaching of single lessons. Exposure will cover classroom management, material and pupils organization. Students will also plan and teach single lessons during this time. 

 

EDU4-2201             Sustainable Community Studies

This course provides students with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes to support primary school children to be self-reliant and productive citizens.

To achieve these outcome(s) students will study the theory of sustainable agricultural resources (soil, livestock, and crops) and be involved in practical activities such as growing crops, raising animals and maintaining soil fertility. The course will further support the principles of teaching and learning Making a Living in Primary schools.

 

EDU4-2202             PNG Cultural studies

This course is designed for students to study existing and emerging PNG cultures, and to support understanding of how cultures influence everyday lives. Students will research the relationships between cultures and social structures in order to support teaching and learning in primary classrooms

 

EDU1-1209             Reproductive Health & HIV

This course develops students’ knowledge about the causes, signs, symptoms and the related measures of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). As an outcome of this course students will be enabled to teach and create greater awareness of health issues in their classrooms and the wider communities.

 

EDU3-2202             Language as a Social Practice

This course will enable the students to understand that children come to school from a range of differing social and cultural backgrounds. They will also study the relationship between culture and language, the various language acquisition theories and appreciate how first language is acquired and how the given theories could assist teachers in facilitating the learning of a second language.
